| Don't get me wrong Voodoo...I just got out from getting a manicure and a pedicure. When its time to get girly, I'll get very girly. I can be found in a fightshow or at an opera. I know when to take out my smile dress or my fight shorts. Unfortunately, the majority, "old school" generation of women find mma a "man's sport". I definitely don't agree with this and I am certainly one of the first to stand up and fight for my right as a woman to do whatever I put my mind to. But it does certainly suck to feel that negative pressure from those who you love and care about. see that there aren't enough women like us that shift up the level for the woman of today or our daughters of tommorrow. |

I totally agree, bjjamazon!! Well, I have a daughter who is only 2 1/2 but goes to the dojo with me..she already has a nice horse stance as well as a decent side kick and likes thrust punches. She also plays around the house in her hot pink feather boa, dress up clothes and has tea parties. There is hope for the women of tomorrow. My two sons will argue with anyone that girls CAN do anything boys can do. I didnt set out to teach them that ..they just kinda see what I, know what I have done...and kinda got it on their own.

VooDooQueen,
I must say its wonderful and comforting to hear and be reassured that there are women who go through the same problems as me. Even the men i train with sometimes say im butch. It cuts pretty deep because I grew up in the south as well and my mother was the typical southern woman. So to not be like my mom is tough in its own ways, but when other people point out that im not half the lady my mother was it hurts. I was put in a much better mood after reading your post! Thank you so much! Your daughter is very lucky!

LadyGrappler,
Boy..do I understand the typical southern lady thing. I can be one when I have to..and I have been asked if I am a butch as well. I am far from butch. I just happen to be what I call a Rennaissance Woman. As far as you not being as much of a woman as your mother..um..shuga..you are more woman than she is because you have the courage to do what your heart wants...not be led by what society thinks you should be. Read my first posts to this forum about gladiatrixes and female warriors from ancient Rome as well as Brittannia ..mother of England as she is known. You, being from the South, you know those southern "ladies" can and will get in a catfight at the drop of a hat.
I am glad I put ya in a better mood. Dont forget that opinions are like assholes...everyone has one and they usually stink so dont let that crap bug you. I bet deep down they wish they had the kahunas to do what you do. Be proud of who you are....not ashamed of what others think you should be and you arent.
