| I honestly have no idea how anyone could possibly watch this fight and say that "Shayna dictated" anything. She had great counter strikes but that was pretty much it. Sara took the fight wherever she wanted, getting all the takedowns and initiating every exchange. It really baffles me how people in this thread are not calling her a "submission specialist" and a "striker". Everyone hated on her before for not standing and only using her takedowns, now she has improved to the point that she can stand and out strike people and people want her to use her takedowns more. Wow. |

I called her a "striker" because in that fight thats what she did mostly, strike, doing stand up. You are correct to point out she does mostly takedowns and submissions before this fight, which makes sense, given her strong wrestling background. I felt Shayna had won this fight. Now looking at the fight again, I can see your point. But I have to say it was very close, I would have given it to Shayna, especially twards the end when she rocked Sara with a hard punch. Sara did get takedowns but was unable to do anything with them and then had to get back on her feet and do standup. She won, but not in a decisive way, with a submission, tko or knockout. Just my two cents here GHP.  |

You know, I am have done some thinking on this and have come to the conclusion that this fight was a draw. Another poster on this forum said something that makes sense. Get rid of the judges and scoring. If a fight does not end with a knockout, TKO, or a submission then its a draw. And honestly that is exactly what happened here. A draw. I did not see a submission or a knockout, or a TKO. At the end of round 3 I saw both fighters on their feet trading punches back and forth. I have a lot of respect for both Sara McMann and Shayna Baszler. I do not dislike either one or feel prejudiced twards either one. Both of you have very good points and know what your talking about. I respect your point of views. I cannot entirely agree with you but its fun talking to both of you. Yours Defshepard. |
