But it's not MMA and it's not SHOOT BOXING. It's Vale Tudo.

There seems to be some confusion here because this is an MMA fight that absolutely does count towards the fighters' records. "Special Vale Tudo" is simply a terminology used by Shoot Boxing to describe the fight, and the "special Jewels rules" that permit ground-and-pound are nothing new. They've been used in other Jewels fights before; namely, ones including Megumi Fujii and also at least one or two with Hiroko.

This is a professional mixed martial arts fight and the result will count towards both fighters' records.

"Vale Tudo" was a term coined to describe early MMA fights - most notably, ones in Brazil - that had almost no rules and were contested with bare fists and legal headbutts. Shoot Boxing still uses the term all the time to describe shootboxing matches ("Standing Vale Tudo"), but it's a completely different context now and doesn't mean the same thing. For all intents and purposes, the phrase now means the same thing as MMA.

I don't think it's a pro match. I don't even know if I would call it amateur. Maybe exhibition is the right word. There was no indication of weight class, number of rounds or length of rounds. It doesn't make much sense to call it something else if it's supposed to be a pro MMA match. And that's what they're doing. Very odd.

I agree, it is confusing. I spoke with Jordan Breen about it and he confirmed that it was an MMA fight and that it would count towards fighter records, but that doesn't mean that Shoot Boxing can't change/clarify the rules to be amateur later. It'd still be entered, but it just wouldn't count towards their pro records. We'll see, I guess.

I will say that I highly doubt that they would put on an amateur fight that used the ground-and-pound rules, since those have traditionally been reserved for only a handful of high-level pro fights in Jewels. It would be a complete shift in policy if Shoot Boxing then used them for an amateur fight.

Actually I think they would do that and I think the term Vale Tudo has a somewhat different significance in Japan. They look at it as a more serious term than MMA but not necessarily as a pro fight. For example, if it has no rounds, that distinguishes it from a standard pro match. But nothing was said about that. So they need to say exactly what it is.

Due to an injury, Randi is off the card. As soon as the replacement fighter signs the contact, it'll be announced.

Well, that really sucks. Any further details or just "an injury?"

I'm hearing she injured her hand, but don't know the full extent of the injury.

I would be surprised if they could find a replacement at this point.

BTW, that was Emoto's final fight. She has retired from MMA and pro wrestling.

http://www.mmarising.com/news/2010/08/25/miller-injured-smith-likely-to-face-yamanaka/

Tim is pretty well responsible for many of the details here, but it now looks like Bellator veteran and Kickdown MMA champ Leslie Smith will take Randi's place against Hiroko. Fight has not yet been officially signed, though.

And HeadKickLegend had posted an updated story 20 hours ago that stated that Randi would no longer be competing. I didn't see it until just now, but they did post the update/retraction, so it's all good.
