I think the WAMMA rankings are starting to look a little more realistic now - although there are a few things which are not.

I totally disagree with Julia Berezekova being in top 10 at 125.

First off all her fights have been under 135.

Secondly she also is 3-3-0 with two wins over debut fighters. Her only claim to fame is that some of her fights have been televised due to her BODOG appearances - otherwise no-one would have a clue who she was.

What about the following fighters who all actually fight at 125 and have a much more legitimate claim
Leno Ovchynnikova 6-0-0
Anna Mayne 3-0-0
Kinuka Sasaki 3-6-1 (has defeated Kazue)
Kazue Matake 3-2-0 (def no 6 ranked Windy)

Also I think Marloes Coenan is an excellent fighter and have been a fan of hers for years but I think the only reason she is at number 2 at 145 is to legitamise Strikeforce's decision to make her no 1 contender.

She has recently lost to Cindy Dandois and if these were like boxing rankings (which aren't perfect) then there is no way she can be ranked higher than someone who has beaten her. Which also places Erin above her as well.

Anyone got any contact details for Lena? that could be another fight in Europe for me, if I don't get anything overseas.
All the best,

Hey tapoutuk - I think you're partly right about Julia making the list because of "name recognition", however, if you look closer at her record, you'll see that her 3 losses were to: Tara LaRosa (# 1 at 135), Julie Kedzie (# 10 at 135) and to Rosi smile (# 1 at 125). Probably 95% of the fighters out there would have similar results against that line-up. Also, the reason she is listed in the 125-lb division is because her last 3 fights were at that weight. I do agree though that there are some other fighters at 125 starting to make waves and she may soon find herself "on the outside looking in", if she doesn't get some more wins under her belt.

Actually, Marloes (16-3) has been ranked # 2 for months now, long before her name was ever mentioned as fighting for Strikeforce. The reason she is ranked ahead of Erin, who KO'ed her 5 years ago, is because after that night, Erin had only 1 fight in the next 4-years (12-19-04 to 11-20-08 ), whereas Marloes when 8-1 during that same period.

That's who makes the banner for me. The top portion is hyper-linked to Fightergirls and the bottom portion is hyper-linked to Tussle.....plus they post it on their various webpages, so that helps to "get the info out there".

Hey,

Marloes is actually 19-3-0. She fought and won three times in fights early in her career in Holland that Sherdog doesn't have listed. That comes directly from her and three of her Golden Glory teammates from backstage in San Jose.

It might take a while, but there's three more fights that you can try to find in order to further improve upon the already excellent fighter database. : )

Hi Debi - Well, I don't know if a higher ranking would get you more fights or not (it doesn't seem to have helped Roxy or Amanda), but I do agree that your last 2 losses could have just as easily been victories. IMHO, the fight with Akano in Japan was pure robbery, plain and simple. I've yet talked to anyone who thinks she won that fight. The fight with Rosi was extremely close and could have gone either way. If memory serves me correctly, I had scored the fight as a draw (1 round each and 1 a tie) and I think many saw it that way too.

Oh, and as far as anyone thinking your old or not at top level.....I wouldn't advise it, that could be a VERY painful mistake to make! Laughing

The 125 and 135 rankings are going to get interesting pretty soon, though.

You're going to have to figure out whether Tara moves from the top of 135 directly to the top of 125 or whether she fits into the top five somewhere else.

The top of 135 is also going to be very interesting because you can then make a case for any of the top three (Sarah, Takayo and Roxanne) being #1.

Debi, I'm not sure what your thread was referring to the other day, but you might not be without a fight for long.

Actually, Tara may be the first to be ranked in two divisions at once (see rule # 2). She would maintain her # 1 ranking at 135 and her ranking at 125 would depend on who she beats.

WAMMA Voting Rules:

1 - No fighter under suspension by a major athletic commission is eligible to receive votes.

2 - A fighter gets ranked in most recent weight class only, unless he holds a title, in which case he is ranked in both his championship class, as well as the one he is competing in. (title = # 1 ranking in the female divisions for now)

3 - If a fighter goes 12 months without fighting regardless of reason, he is ineligible to receive votes and appear in WAMMA's fighter poll. (18 months for females)

4 - Per a November, 2008 vote, WAMMA pollsters formally denied the ability for ballots of absentee owners to be rolled over from a previous month. A pollster must submit a ballot for the current month's poll by the mandated deadline in order to have votes recognized.

Ah, okay.

From what I've read, she's planning on making it a permanent move, though, and when it's a case where the move is permanent (or intended to be permanent), I feel that it no longer makes sense to rank said fighter in their original weight class.

However, I do not know for certain whether she is still going to entertain fights at 135, so that would obviously be different.

Hey Robert - She posted a while back on the UG that her move to 125 was for 1 reason.....to beat Rosi and become # 1 in two weight classes. Then she said if Sarah was still undefeated at 135, she'd be back to take care of her too. Now, as I've said before, I think Tara is the # 1 P4P female fighter in the world, however that's a mighty tall order for even her! Laughing

My prediction right now (I owe you beer if I'm wrong):

Sarah Kaufman defeats Tara LaRosa by TKO midway through the first round.

I actually think that Rosi has a VERY good chance of beating Tara, too, so that will be most interesting.

The new WAMMA rankings for October are now posted. Some of the major changes are:

Flyweight: Jessica Pene moved from # 7 to # 6 with her win over then # 10 Angela Magana. Also, Kyoko Takabayashi moved into the Top-10

Bantamweight: Unfortunately, Amanda Buckner was removed for inactively (not fighting within 18 months). Moving into the Top-10 is Jenn Tate

Featherweight: Jamie Seaton moved into the Top-10
