What you didn't see was that the doctor actually cleared me to fight the third round but the commission said "no". I wanted to continue, my corner wanted to continue. The cut likely would have opened in the third but it was under the eye. If I had to guess, I would say that they didn't want the visual of a woman with a bloody face on CBS.

They also chose not to do a post fight interview with me or to include me in the post fight news conference and after party. I think the reason for that was my beat up appearance after the fight because I was not seriously injured and was completely coherent.

I am very disappointed about that but cant help but wonder how people would have responded to that, as stupid as it is.

yeah i been searching for a post fight interview from you and couldnt find any Sad . So I guess if women can fight on primetime as long as they stay pretty during the process...what a jip...hopefully maybe they are just going to be that cautious for the debut...but besides that you two rocked in there and grats. I watched it at work and everyone there screaming and everything...everyone there thought you 2 rocked...my heart was thumpin..lol

Kaitlin - Impressive performance first of all. I'm glad you posted the reality of the stoppage. My first reaction was that I had no idea why they had stopped the fight. Obviously you were getting the worst of it at the end of round two but you clearly answered the doctors questions, the only possible cut looked like it was under the eye, and it appeared that even though your eye was getting beat up you could still see out of it. Who knows what would have happened in the third but I would have liked to see you get the chance to find out. For being so young, with so little time in the ring, being put in such a large spotlight I thought you did an amazing job. How they treated you after, with not interviewing you or including you in any of the post fight stuff is inexcusable, and completely disrespectful of the fact that you trained your butt off, showed up and accepted a fight with your opponent missing weight by a large margin, and then fought as hard as you possibly could. They should be ashamed......you should be proud.

wow...just...wow.

yeah i definitely didnt think your vision was going to be impaired, i just thought they were worried about the cut opening. if the doctor cleared you but the commission stopped it, thats BS.

im really sorry you didnt even get to do an interview, it just shows how shady they are. even though your eye looked bad (by normal peoples standards) you being coherent, upbeat, and acting ok in an interview maybe may have HELPED the situation. for all the viewers know you were headed to the hospital for your "gruesome, life-threatening injury" while gina had the mic. rather than leaving it up to their imaginations, they should have let you show how it was purely cosmetic.

im really sorry you had to deal with all that BS.

first, just glad to hear there was no major permanent damage. i do think they were on damage control but across the board, also with the guys there were a couple even more premature stoppages. i believe Thompson's ear explosion was a big issue for them. but that post fight treatment is totally f'd, Baroni was fairly banged up yet got an entire post fight segment with Frank. i suppose with Thomson's ear could be patched or covered with a hat whereas maybe they felt your eye was harder to conceal, some huge shades mighta covered most, but def unfair...

as for the fight, i think Carano was finding her rhythm and gaining momentum....but, if you felt you could have continued and wanted try and finish it out should have been allowed. the first round i had pretty even you got some wicked low kicks in, and took and delivered some major b's really well. still the fight of the night imo!

much respect grrl...

OK Folks, let me ask this question,
Taking what Katlin said into consideration, now and everything we talked about today did CBS/Elite XC portray our passion the way we see it?

i believe it's a difficult situation since this was the first CBS card being presented to the mainstream. you obviously have a lot of network heads and the commission involved. i can understand the concerns and there's a learning curve which i'm sure will be analyzed and some major changes/improvements will be made for subsequent shows...

however, the post fight treatment of Kaitlin, without explanation or consideration, is a separate issue which i find very disturbing and peculiar...

What's the point of hiring a medical professional if you are going to overrule him/her?

I suppose it's like its been said, all down to public image...

You know Frank - I think Sarah Kaufman would be a perfect opponent. Gina is 6-0 now and Sarah is 7-0, both have great standup and aggressive styles and both are kind of up and coming. That would be an awesome fight and a true test for both.

Wasn't sure about Sarah's weight class. I'd like to see her work somewhere other than TKO first.

I'm not in the business but I'm guessing as the so-called "face of women's MMA" she has a tiny bit of leverage maybe enough to negotiate weight and they wouldn't just drop her if she said she wanted to fight at 145. Besides, it's not like she hasn't repeatedly signed up for fights Shaw had nothing to do with and failed to make weight. So blaming it on Shaw seems like a cop-out.

Gina didn't have that kind of leverage when she first signed with EliteXC. She was unknown. So until she has the opportunity to rework the terms of her contract, it's HIS decision to have her fight at 140. She's also going to protect her current position and not embarass him. But it's OK for Shaw to make an arbitrary decision to have Gina fight at 140 when he ought to know better. It didn't make sense two years ago and it still doesn't make sense.

Yeah, I have to agree. I think if people were shocked or upset by the look of it they may have been put at ease a bit by seeing that I was okay. I think some people probably assumed the worst because I basically disappeared from the camera after the fight.

I'm not trying to be one of those people "Well, I would have won if they had let it go into the third round so it wasn't my fault. Yada yada yada...." Gina was obviously getting the better of me at that point in the fight, but I wasn't ready to be done. It really bothers me that I didn't get a chance to thank my sponsors and all that jazz.

Thanks for the kind words you guys.

Kaitlin, I'm glad to hear you weren't injured. You did a great job and represented well for the ladies.

As far as EliteXC goes.... Evil or Very Mad
