He has to stop doing that at some point or it will backfire on him.

lol Erin will *never* make Carano look like a chump, both are xcellent, but it would be a nice matchup and should happen. btw Gina doesn't have or need "her own" division there is/has never been standardized weight classes in female mma...and Gina should be able to float up or down just as even bigger girls than Gina (like Erin) have had to do...Shaw is not to blame for Gina blowing up she is to blame and has admitted it herself...

It will be a wait and see thing I think... What he does from here and who else he signs, he did indicate a couple other potential signings in the works if he cant make it work, I dont think his thoughts of making a full professional league is going to happen.

It was so funny, I was in the gym today working with one of my coaches and I didnt even fathem to think how simple Gina was keeping her stand up.. But with her power.

I think its both of them myself. Ginas image has blown up because of her willingness to get out there in the public spot light. Shaw though to me is overcapitalizing on it way too much, when I think their might be stronger people out there

Look, she's not going to say publicly that Shaw is to blame. She's going to take responsibility because that's the kind of person she is. But she should never have been put in that position in the first place. 140 is always going to be a struggle for her. Was that figure her decision? No, it's Gary Shaw trying to be cute. He needs to knock it off. And I wouldn't have a problem with Open Weight. That's what they do in Japan.

I would like to see the whole idea of an open division myself, give the strongest fighters a chance to fight the strongest fighters

Frank, bigger, taller more massed girls than Gina have cut weight, even lower than 140 just fine, so she certainly can as well...Gina has simply not been conditioning 'enough' between fights and blowing up WAY overweight, that is a fact i've already stated and know that for a fact, not only quoted directly from her, obvious by her weight gains, but also backed up as well by others i know who are directly around her. of course she herself is not going to give info out or break loyalties particularly to direct potential opponent camps...

she has been starting to train more, yes, but comparably barely fight trains 'conditioning-wise' between fights near her potential and was particularly in a situation this time with the forced short training time, which yeah Shaw put her in that tough position needing the draw but we ALL did as well...she needs to make weight and get more serious about training and conditioning just like anyone else, whether 140 or any other, plain and simple...

You keep saying that but the bottom line is she has had trouble making 140 for every fight. So my response to that is she shouldn't be fighting at that weight. That makes a lot more sense than Shaw trying to contrive something that embarasses her and he doesn't have to answer for it because people don't get that he's responsible. And at some point it will bite him in the ass.

right i understand your point, but i'm just saying she has had the trouble due to her own fault of blowing up in weight too much and not conditioning or cutting properly, by raising the weight to 145 'may' solve the making weight issue but feeds her not having to condition as optimally and reaching her potential, she should 'ideally' be able to do either (if/when she is conditioning properly) and float even from 135 up thru 145+, same as other fighters such as Kaitlin and various other fighters are able to do. so setting the weight higher may keep her from getting some heat, but also gives her an out from conditioning and will prevent a lot more great potential matchups at 140 since many girls won't go above that weight, other than maybe Rox...lol

You know Frank - I think Sarah Kaufman would be a perfect opponent. Gina is 6-0 now and Sarah is 7-0, both have great standup and aggressive styles and both are kind of up and coming. That would be an awesome fight and a true test for both.

I'm not in the business but I'm guessing as the so-called "face of women's MMA" she has a tiny bit of leverage maybe enough to negotiate weight and they wouldn't just drop her if she said she wanted to fight at 145. Besides, it's not like she hasn't repeatedly signed up for fights Shaw had nothing to do with and failed to make weight. So blaming it on Shaw seems like a cop-out.

I agree. That would be a great match up. I still think the stoppage was completely justified. Male, female. It does not matter. A serious cut under the eye is justification enough for a stoppage, But I think at this point Sarah Kaufman is the perfect opponent for Gina.

agreed with molly.
i broke my cheekbone in the total combat fight and it swelled like a muther but there was no cut, and i think thats the only thing that saved a stoppage.
if kaitlin has skin like mine, meaning i swell and bruise really easily, i pity her because one shot can make you look like ass with the quickness.
it sucks, i think she was fine and able to fight more, but i do agree...if that eye got tagged one more time it was going to split wide open. thats a career-haunting injury i wouldnt wish on her because i think she could rematch gina in the future.
so so proud of her, especially since the womens fight pretty much "pwned" the men.
love when that happens!

My left cheek and area surrounding the eye are looking pretty ugly today, but there was no major damage. Though it may have looked like it on tv, I never actually had an open wound.

What you didn't see was that the doctor actually cleared me to fight the third round but the commission said "no". I wanted to continue, my corner wanted to continue. The cut likely would have opened in the third but it was under the eye. If I had to guess, I would say that they didn't want the visual of a woman with a bloody face on CBS.

They also chose not to do a post fight interview with me or to include me in the post fight news conference and after party. I think the reason for that was my beat up appearance after the fight because I was not seriously injured and was completely coherent.

I am very disappointed about that but cant help but wonder how people would have responded to that, as stupid as it is.
