I feel like a bit of a tool sitting here on my computer writing a review, and even more so having just taken pics to post on the net for all to see.

Anyway, this is my attempt at a review, (writing is not one of my strengths), so here goes: If you have any specific questions I may be able to help you with then please don't hesitate to ask.

First Impressions
I couldn't wait to get my hands on a pair of these shorts. Not many mma shorts made specifically for women. I do have a pair of the inspirit womens long shorts, I don't know of any other mma board shorts specifically made for women. Female shorts are a different cut to male shorts as a females hip to waist ratio is different to a male.
Often male shorts just don't sit right, if you do want them to sit right then you have to get a bigger size, and usually these are way too baggy in the legs.

When I received the package I couldn't wait to open it up and try them on and here is what I have to say:

CONSTRUCTION
I didn't pay much attention to textile (sewing) in highschool (I was into the sports, much more fun!). Anyway, seems like single stitching is used, with double stitching in some areas that need strength, that is, double stitched seems and crotch.

The feel of the shorts is unreal, soft to the touch, they feel good. Just the one material used throughout, polyester (as it says on the tag), no stretch panel for extra flexibility between the legs like some mma shorts on the market have (eg sprawl), but this doesn't make the shorts any less functional, or more importantly won't stop you from kicking ass!
Polyester (answers.com) is a tough and durable material, and has some stretch properties. It is wrinkle resistant and quick drying, and have excellent wash and wear characteristics. Perfect for mma shorts!

There is no split seem like some shorts have (this is a split up the sides of the leg to make more room. my inspirit shorts have this), but there is more than enough room/width in the leg for high kicks.

These shorts sit on your hip, rather up on your waist, cause of the shorter crotch design. I got size small, notice in the pic where the shorts sit on me at a (EDIT): 31inch measurement (in the photo it wrote 28" size, however I either made a mistake at the time or I've put on more weight -all muscle baby lol- I re-measured today and it is 31inch...(sorry).. I had no clue about what size to get (not used to your sizes), so thought I would put this info in for others out there. Im a size 8 in Australia, I weigh 50kg (I now weigh 53.5kg and the still fit) and 164cm tall. Hope it helps.

CLOSURE SYSTEM
There are two parts to the closure system on these shorts:
1) An inside tie (see pic) - that lets you tighten the shorts to suit you, but you should still order to your right hip size, because the shorts are designed to have extra space in the right areas, and they are designed to sit just above your hips (rather than high on your waist), if you get bigger they just don't seem to fit as well as the right size cause these are low cut
shorts, not much crotch (I got a size medium not knowing the US size system very well, the fit sucked compared to the small for me, the small fit so well).

2) The second part of the closure system, the main part, is the velcro closure system (see pic). Velcro fly, then velcro that secures the shorts SHUT over the top.

DESIGN
There are two designs/prints available in these shorts. 1) Black/Red, and 2) Hawaiian Print.

I got the Black/Red, they look sharp, awesome looking with the V design at the back of the shorts! (The Hawaiian print also has this. I will be ordering a Hawaiian print for sure. Wink).

OVERALL
I wore these shorts at training today (standup training). Did sparring at the end with kicks, and found no limitations in my movement in anyway.(also found no limitations getting my ass kicked by my trainer). I am getting used to the shorter crotch (just a personal thing, actually am used to it now). I am looking forward to testing them out in some ground work next week.

These shorts are so cool you can wear them around anywhere (unlike thai boxing shorts, which you might look a bit funny wearing them out, not that that should stop you if you want to). Wear these at the beach and go surfing! then do some mma training on the sand to dry off!

I used to wear surf shorts in training, but they kept coming undone. So these shorts were the perfect solution for me. Very Happy

If you want some cool shorts for whatever discipline you train in (standup, grappling), or even if you don't train, you should definitely consider alpha female fight shorts.

See the shorts in action: Julie Kedzie wore them in her fight against Gena Cerano at EliteXC in Feb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9aYcpErL8Y

The only bummer with these shorts - they no longer come with the fightergirl.com logo! (these were a limited time batch).

Go check them out at: http://www.fightergirls.net/shop/?shop=1&cat=6&cart=242239 (you can check out the other stuff while your there Wink )

Cool

Thanks for your replies Very Happy (Didn't take me too long to write rox).

Update: Have had a 'roll' (or two) in the shorts.....I have to say I am really happy with them!

The shorter crotch actually is an advantage, the shorts don't ride up when your rolling and give you a wedgie or bunch up around your waste like other shorts do.

Definitely an awesome pair of female mma shorts.

Let me also add, the customer service was great, (even if your buying from overseas like me, its only $7 extra for international shipping, no matter how many products you order!). I received the shorts within 3 days of them being shipped out. Not bad at all Smile

Please feel free to add any comments or if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

I will be more than happy to add the Fightergirls.com logo to any shorts, hoodies or shirts ordered, at no additional charge. Just let me know, send me a pm or email me at alphajenn@gmail.com, after you place your order... I can also add the little fightergirl from the logo at the top of the page. Very Happy

what would be nice is if we could personalize these shorts or have more color options....seeing as how I'm an individual and HATE wearing something that someone else is wearing when in the ring/cage.
They definetly look like they are good shorts. I'd love to have some for my fight July 21st...

I edited the original post of my review today:

I re-measured my waist today (cause I have been putting on weight -on purpose people!) cause I want to order some of the awesomely cool looking new alpha female fight shorts, and my waist/hip size where the shorts sit is not 28inches but 31 to 31.5inches...............oops. really sorry how I made this mistake, (I think I may have looked at the wrong side of the tape when I originally measured it ). Shocked

size small still fit fine.

Hello,
Does anyone know if these shorts can be delivered to France? I would be interested in buying a couple of pairs.
Thanks,
Jenna

I've had my pair for almost a year and they're great. They get worn and machine washed atleast once a week and they're still in great shape.

The best part is the best part is they are all guys and they still want the leopard print!!

PostPosted: Wed Jun 11, 2008 5:22 am    Post subject: Shorts and rashguard review Reply with quote

I just received the black/white shorts and the black/white rashguard and wanted to comment how much I love them so far...

I'm 5'2", 125 lbs, 34-26-37... I have the shorts in medium, and I think the rashie is a small. Both fit great, not too tight in the thigh/rear area which is usually a problem for me... the waist drawstring prevents that gappy waist thing I hate, and the fabric is very nice. It has a very smooth finish. And the curved yoke over the backside is really flattering! My only concern will be catching the drawstring on the velcro fastening, but I think with care I can avoid that.

I haven't worn them yet but I will tonight for no-gi class.
